How Do I Obtain a Wisconsin Concealed Carry Permit?

1. Attend our Wisconsin Dept. of Justice Concealed Carry class

• The State of Wisconsin requires completion of a qualifying in-person firearms safety course. Our easy, relaxed 4-hour Concealed Carry and Personal Defense class exceeds all state requirements and is beginner-friendly. 

• At the end of class, you will receive a Certificate of Training, which is required to apply for your permit. We also provide a copy of the Wisconsin Concealed Carry Permit paper application.

 

2. Apply for your permit with the State of Wisconsin Dept. of Justice

You may apply in one of two ways:

• Apply online through the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) website, or

• Mail in your completed paper application provided to you in class

Your application must include:

1. Completed application

2. A copy of your Certificate of Training, (online will be a digital upload of certificate)

3. A $40 application fee payable to the Wisconsin Dept. of Justice

• Once your application is received, the Wisconsin DOJ will conduct a background check on you.

• As long as you do not have disqualifying felony convictions or serious criminal offenses on your record, you can typically expect to receive your Wisconsin Concealed Carry Permit  in the mail within about 7–14 days.​

How long will my permit be good for?

• Once you receive your permit it will be good for 5 years.

 

Can I carry my gun in other states?

• Yes, Wisconsin's Concealed Weapons Permit is honored in about 35 other states. Refer to the Wisconsin Dept. of Justice Website for a list of states with reciprocity.
